Completion of Body-in-White Project at Volvo Cars Plant
In 2022, a GERMANENGINEER.COM project manager was hired by ThyssenKrupp to manage the completion of a critical body-in-white project at Volvo Cars’ state-of-the-art plant in Charleston, South Carolina. This facility, Volvo’s first U.S.-based automotive plant, plays a pivotal role in the production of the all-new Volvo EX90 Pure Electric SUV.
Key accomplishments include:
- Overseeing the installation and commissioning of more than 50 robots, laser welding and bonding systems critical to the production of doors and tailgates for the Volvo EX90.
- Implementing a KANBAN system to streamline operations, improve task prioritization and reduce project backlogs.
- Completing the commissioning of all equipment, seamlessly integrating the new model into the existing body assembly line.
- Ensuring the timely start of production of the Volvo EX90, in line with Volvo’s commitment to sustainable operations and the use of renewable energy.
